The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested 13 individuals for engaging in illegal mining activities at Wassa Gyapa, a community near Wassa Akropong in the Western Region.
The arrests were made on 19 May 2025 as part of ongoing anti-galamsey operations aimed at curbing illegal mining in the region.
The suspects have been identified as Nana Ampadu, Stephen Tetteh, Yaw Dalame, Samuel Amoah, Kwame Oppong and Francis Oduom.
Others include Owusu Asare, Atta Kwame, Apiyanga Emmanuel, Kojo Montanakito, Maxwell Owusu, Obofo Vincent and Soogal Fataw.
As part of the operation, police personnel destroyed over 120 Chanfang machines and seized six motorbikes, which are being held as evidence.
The suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before the Tarkwa Circuit Court upon completion of further investigations.
