The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, has cut the sod for construction of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors’ (GhIS) Centre of Excellence in Accra.
This event represents a significant milestone in GhIS’s long-standing vision to establish a world-class facility dedicated to professional development, research and advisory services.
In his address, Mr. Agbodza lauded the Ghana Institution of Surveyors for its continued commitment to enhancing value for money in public infrastructure projects.
He underscored the GhIS’ importance in supporting government initiatives, especially the ‘Big Push’ agenda, through expert advice, project audits and technical insights.
The minister also reaffirmed government’s dedication to completing stalled projects and addressing pressing infrastructure needs across the country.
The Centre of Excellence is envisioned as a multidisciplinary hub that will house facilities for alternative dispute resolution (ADR), value for money assessments, project auditing and data processing.
It will also provide a collaborative platform for professionals in the built environment and academia to engage in knowledge sharing, capacity building and innovation.
President-GhIS Kofi Obeng-Ayirebi for his part stressed the strategic role the Centre of Excellence will play in promoting excellence and professionalism within the surveying and construction industries.
He reiterated his outfit’s commitment to contributing meaningfully in national development through capacity enhancement and policy advocacy.
The ceremony was attended by key stakeholders including representatives from the Ministry of Finance, judiciary and sister professional bodies such as the Ghana Institute of Architects, Ghana Institute of Planners and Ghana Institution of Engineers.
Their presence underscored a collective endorsement for the Centre of Excellence’s purpose and vision.
Also present at the ceremony was Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzra, the board chairman of GETFUND and a surveyor by training.
Construction work on the GhIS Centre of Excellence is expected to commence in earnest shortly.
