The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has reaffirmed its commitment to developing a robust electricity transmission grid capable of meeting current energy demands and supporting the country’s future socio-economic growth.
Speaking at the 7th National Biennial Delegates Congress of the GRIDCo Senior Staff Association (SSA) in Tamale, Acting Deputy Chief Executive Frank Otchere said the company will continue engaging strategic partners to strengthen its operations and ensure reliable power supply nationwide.
“The future of energy is not built in isolation. Through partnerships with the Millennium Development Authority, World Bank, French Development Agency, European Union and others, we are delivering multimillion-dollar infrastructure projects essential for efficient grid operations,” he stated.
The congress, themed Forging partnership for a resilient and sustainable energy future, brought together staff representatives from across the country to discuss sector challenges and elect new SSA leaders.
Mr. Otchere emphasised that collaboration – including with government, private sector, investors and local communities – is key to addressing the complex challenges facing Ghana’s energy sector.
Internally, he encouraged staff to foster stronger teamwork to meet the company’s strategic goals.
Environmental commitment
He also announced that GRIDCo is working with the Forestry Commission to plant low-growing shrub species along transmission line corridors to prevent activities such as illegal tree-cutting, which threatens infrastructure.
“Tree-planting is part of our commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation as we adapt to the evolving energy landscape,” he added.
GRIDCo is also adopting smart grid technologies and positioning itself for increased renewable energy integration, citing the company’s collaboration on the Bui Solar Project in Yendi.
SSA calls for strategic action
National Chairman-GRIDCo SSA, Wisdom Kojo Adenyo, noted that the company has achieved significant progress over the past 16 years, thanks to the efforts of its staff and management.
“Stable power supply is essential to national development and GRIDCo has played a central role in achieving that,” he said.
While acknowledging past successes, Mr. Adenyo stressed the need for continuous innovation and strategic thinking to address future challenges.
He added that the congress provided an opportunity for members to reflect on how best to support GRIDCo’s growth and sustainability in the years ahead.
