The 2004-year group of Wesley Girls’ High School (WGHS) has launched a fundraising campaign to support its role as the lead host for the school’s 2026 Speech Day and a related Legacy Project.
The launch event, held in Accra, aims to raise at least GH? 2 million (approx. USD 145,000), with a stretch goal of GH? 4 million, to finance a major contribution to the school’s infrastructure, a fully furnished first floor of a new Resource Centre, and to organize a memorable celebration of the institution’s historic annual event.
A highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the group’s Patron, Madam Araba Botchway (née Middleton-Mends), a member of the WGHS Class of 1984 and current President of her year group.
Madam Botchway, who is also the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at Ashesi University and leads its Mastercard Scholars Program, was celebrated for her two-decade track record in education and youth leadership.
The launch followed weeks of anticipation, spurred by a social media campaign that teased the identity of the Patron.
The event drew support from several prominent alumni and supporters of the school, including: Nana Sarfo, CEO of Bora Capital Advisors Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association Freda Donkor, CEO of FH Depot Company Ltd Yaw Ackonor, Petroleum Engineer, GNPC Hassan Tampuli, Member of Parliament for Gushiegu Dr. Richard Yeboah Asante, CEO of Afrah International Hospital and Watford Energy Dr. Esi Ansah, Executive Director of Ashesi University’s Centre for Leadership and member of the Constitutional Review Committee Charles Owusu Ansah, CEO of Charusa Ltd.
Other WGHS year groups, including those from 1964, 1974, 1984, 1994, 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2014, showed their solidarity at the event, either in person or through donations.
Representatives from sister schools such as Mfantsipim School, Mfantsiman Girls’ Senior High School, and Achimota School also attended.
The 2026 celebration will see the 2004-year group, calling themselves the “Fantastic Fours,” take up the mantle of lead organizers. Under the theme FOURtified, Unstoppable Together,” the group has pledged to leave a lasting legacy that strengthens learning and community life at Wesley Girls’ High School.
“Our goal is not just to celebrate, but to build,” said a representative of the group. “We are united in purpose and determined to create an impact that will benefit current and future generations of students.”
