Environmental health non-profit organisation, Pure Earth Ghana, has congratulated President John Dramani Mahama on his election and successful inauguration as the President of the Republic.
In a statement issued in Accra, Pure Earth expressed excitement about the environmental vision outlined in Point 19 of the President’s first 120-day social contract, which emphasises the “Ban on illegal and new mining activities in forest reserves” and the rollout of programmes such as ‘Tree for Life’ and ‘Blue Water Initiative.’
These initiatives, according to Pure Earth, aim to restore and sustainably manage areas and water bodies affected by illegal mining, transforming them into hubs for economic and ecological recovery.
The organisation highlighted the urgent need to address environmental pollution challenges, particularly in the artisanal and small-scale gold mining sector, which aligns with Pure Earth’s core mission.
As a globally recognised organisation focused on addressing heavy metal pollution such as lead and mercury contamination, Pure Earth Ghana has been actively collaborating with key governmental agencies, including the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Pure Earth Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to supporting President Mahama’s environmental agenda through:
- Advancing sustainable practices for addressing heavy metal pollution.
- Collaborating with key government agencies to reduce mercury use in mining.
- Protecting communities from harmful pollutants.
- Building a cleaner, healthier and resilient Ghana for future generations.
The organisation concluded by reiterating its readiness to work hand-in-hand with the government to implement sustainable environmental solutions and create a cleaner and more sustainable future for Ghana.
