…Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble ~Matthew 6: 31-33 NKJV
Last week, we had an introduction to the characteristics of a kingdom business. This week, we shall delve deeper into it. A triumphant kingdom business is distinguished by a set of defining characteristics that not only pave the way for entrepreneurial accomplishment but also serve as a navigational guide for the kingdom entrepreneur. Beyond this, these traits offer a structured framework for seamlessly weaving one’s faith journey into the fabric of their business endeavors.
- A Kingdom Business functions as a tool to fulfil God’s plan for your life
As a believer, it is crucial not to embark on just any business venture, but to discern how your entrepreneurial pursuits align with God’s plan for your life. This principle holds utmost importance. A kingdom business is not merely a means to gather resources for supporting the kingdom; rather, it is the very vehicle through which you carry out your divine mission. The business itself becomes the embodiment of your mission.
Every born-again believer is commissioned by God with a specific mandate. For those inclined towards business, it is imperative to seek divine guidance to ascertain how the enterprise can be intricately woven into fulfilling that divine call. This approach imparts a profound sense of purpose and significance to your business, ultimately leading to a heightened sense of fulfillment in your labor.
- The products and services of a Kingdom Business must honor the Lord Jesus Christ
For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen – Acts 19:24 KJ
The nature of the products and services offered by a kingdom business is of utmost significance. As stewards of a kingdom business, our offerings should not be guided solely by profitability, but rather by the question of whether they bring honor to Jesus Christ. We must scrutinize whether the products and services we provide align with the values of Jesus and His teachings.
In the Book of Acts, we encounter Demetrius, a silversmith, who profited from crafting silver shrines for the goddess Diana. However, the gain he accrued did not necessarily equate to honorable endeavors. Similarly, as kingdom entrepreneurs, we should assess whether our offerings would align with Jesus’ principles. Would Jesus Himself endorse the sale of these products and services? Do they genuinely address valid and ethical needs? Are they conducive to the well-being of others?
The success of a kingdom business is intricately tied to the moral and spiritual integrity of the products and services it provides. It is our responsibility to prioritize offerings that not only contribute to our business’s prosperity but also uphold the values of righteousness and goodness that Jesus exemplifies.
- The members of the management of a Kingdom Business must glorify the Lord Jesus Christ
But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many – Mark 10: 42-45 KJV
The essence of leadership within a kingdom business is of paramount importance. The management of a kingdom business should epitomize the servant leadership model exemplified by Jesus. In the Gospel of Mark, we are reminded that greatness in the kingdom of God is not measured by exerting authority over others, but rather by serving one another with humility and compassion.
Contrary to the world’s leadership norms, a kingdom business’s management should reflect the selfless and humble leadership style of Jesus. This approach extends beyond the treatment of employees to encompass financial stewardship, interactions with governmental bodies, and the marketing of products and services. The overarching objective is to glorify our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
As leaders of a kingdom business, it is incumbent upon us to emulate the servant-hearted leadership modeled by Jesus. By embracing a leadership style characterized by humility, compassion, and sacrificial service, we create an environment that aligns with the principles of the kingdom of God. In doing so, we not only contribute to the success of the business but also honor and glorify the name of Jesus Christ.
- A Kingdom Business must provide for the natural needs of the biblical entrepreneur and his or her family
But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel – 1 Timothy 5:8 KJV
Family is of utmost importance, and the pursuit of entrepreneurship should not overshadow this responsibility. As a kingdom entrepreneur, your business venture should not only align with spiritual principles but also serve as a means to provide for your family’s material needs. Balancing the demands of business and family is essential.
The Bible underscores the significance of work as a means to meet our natural needs and obligations. It emphasizes that neglecting one’s family responsibilities is akin to denying one’s faith and carries grave consequences. As zealous as one may be for their faith, a holistic approach is crucial. Ensuring that your business venture not only thrives spiritually but also fulfills the practical duty of providing for your family is a vital aspect of being a responsible kingdom entrepreneur.
