AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine (AGA), in partnership with Absa Bank, has launched the ‘Women in e-Commerce Project’ as part of its Enterprise and Skills Development Programme under its 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP).
This initiative aims to empower women entrepreneurs by enhancing their online business capabilities and developing a supportive community for growth and collaboration.
The project seeks to actively promote the businesses of 40 selected women entrepreneurs by helping them transition onto the digital marketplace.
Through training sessions, participants will learn how to effectively utilise various e-commerce platforms to reach a broader audience and increase sales. In addition, the project will enhance the digital literacy of women entrepreneurs by exposing them to digital technology – a vital component for market acceleration.
In view of this, the Obuasi Mine and Absa Bank Ghana will organise a series of workshops and mentorship opportunities to equip entrepreneurs with the skills necessary for adapting to rapidly changing digital landscapes and ensuring they remain competitive and successful.
Furthermore, the Women in e-Commerce initiative underscores the importance of connection and knowledge-sharing through networking, and will facilitate the identification of networking opportunities as well as collaboration among women entrepreneurs – allowing them to share best practices and learn from one another’s experiences.
Speaking at the launch in Obuasi, acting Community Relations Manager, AGA Obuasi Mine, Daniel Arthur-Bentum mentioned that the potential for e-commerce to serve as a powerful tool for business development has never been greater.
Therefore, AngloGold has set out to promote the businesses of women entrepreneurs through dedicated support in navigating e-commerce platforms.
“At AngloGold Ashanti, we mine to empower people and advance societies. One way we do this is by empowering women entrepreneurs, which we believe is essential for building sustainable communities,” he said.
“Our partnership with Absa Bank consolidates and builds on the gains we have made so far in implementing the 10-year Socio-Economic Development Plan. It reflects our collective aspiration of embarking on a transformative journey that will have far-reaching positive impacts on the business landscape in Obuasi.
Through the Women in e-Commerce initiative, our goal is to provide the tools and resources needed for these inspiring women to thrive in the digital economy, ultimately enhancing their businesses and contributing to Obuasi’s economic growth,” Mr. Arthur-Bentum added.
