The Registrar of SD Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS), Job Asante, has advised the staff of the university to take exercise seriously, which he says is important to maintaining healthy lifestyles.
“What I want to advise is that as staff, we should take exercise very seriously so that we will be able to keep fit and strong, allowing us to perform our work very well. Non-communicable diseases are prevalent in the country, so I advise all staff to take advantage of this and involve themselves in regular exercise to stay fit for the university and Ghana at large,” he said.
The sporting activities were organised to commemorate Founders’ Day, acknowledging that staff often work continuously without taking the time to exercise, which is crucial for maintaining fitness and health.
The activities featured a competition between the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) and the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
The events included tag of peace, lemon and spoon, needle and thread, line jump, sack race, 100 metres, dancing competition and football. At the end of the activities, GAUA won the competition with 37 points, while UTAG finished with 26 points.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Issaka Kanton Osumanu, handed over the cup to GAUA and stated that they plan to continue organising such programmes during holidays to keep their members active. He also noted that sports are an integral part of academic activities, and they aim to incorporate them into their normal routines. He observed that these sporting activities are essential for socialising, as staff members often have little time to interact with each other.
The UTAG President of SDD-UBIDS, Dr. Joseph K. Wul-Fan, noted that the aim was to foster interaction and camaraderie among members, encouraging them to engage in common activities and exercise together. He praised the event for promoting togetherness and urged his members to continue training, as they plan to organise similar activities with other sister associations.
The President of GAUA at the university, Mr. Joseph Bagah, congratulated his members and emphasised that they will continue training to stay fit and effectively manage the day-to-day activities of the university.
