The Study UK Alumni Awards have acknowledged the exceptional accomplishments of three Ghanaians who have thrived since completing their studies in the United Kingdom.
They are Dr. Dan Vincent Armooh, the Managing Director of Acacia Health Insurance; Prof. Justice Moses Kwaku Aheto, a prominent international researcher and Associate Professor of Biostatistics at the University of Ghana; and Dr. Margaret Wekem Kukeba, the Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at C. K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Navrongo.
Dr. Armooh secured victory in the Business and Innovation category, Prof. Aheto emerged triumphant in the Science and Sustainability category, and Dr. Kukeba achieved success in the Social Action category.
Reflecting on the acknowledgment, Dr. Armooh, who completed a significant portion of his studies in the UK through online learning, expressed that winning the award was a “truly humbling” experience.
Under his watch, Acacia Health Insurance over the last nine years offered its services to some 49,000.00 Ghanaians including 300 corporate firms.
He dreams of making the Acacia Health Insurance card available to every Ghanaian “such that where the national health insurance won’t be adequate, you will be able to fall on Acacia Health Insurance.”
“There’s so much that we can do for our country and the sky’s the limit for us,” he stated.
Prof. Justice Moses Kwaku Aheto said being recognized by the Study UK Alumni Awards scheme “means that a lot is expected of me.”
“Even though it is an exciting moment, it is also a moment for me to challenge myself further to see what I can add on what I have already done. I will never rest,” he declared.
On her part, Dr. Margaret Wekem Kukeba said the award was a recognition of a “long journey.”
“I don’t take this for granted. It has been a privilege to be educated in the UK and this award is going to challenge us to do more for the growth of Ghanaian society.”
Speaking during the short awards ceremony in Accra, Nii Doodo Dodoo, the Country Director Ghana, Cameroon and Sierra Leone of the British Council, said the finalists have demonstrated passion and expertise in their respective field and a yearning to play an active role in the development of their communities.
“These individuals have shown the outstanding feats that they are capable of as well as the ability to overcome limitations and push boundaries to unearth the talents of the communities and countries in which they live,” he stated.
The Study UK Alumni Awards
The Study UK Alumni Awards recognise and honour the outstanding achievements made by international alumni of a UK higher education. Award recipients are leaders in their respective fields, and all of them have used their UK education to bring positive change to their communities, industries and countries.
When outstanding individuals receive a world-class education in the UK, the effects can last a lifetime. The Alumni Awards shine a light on the impact that alumni of UK higher education institutions are making in their chosen field, and how this was sparked by their studies in the UK.
Now in its tenth year, the Study UK Alumni Awards find and celebrate the significant impact outstanding international UK alumni have made on their professions, societies, and countries where they now live.
The Ghana national awards highlight the achievements of UK alumni made in three categories: Science and Sustainability, Social Action and Business and Innovation. These categories illustrate the key foundations that our communities would need to have in order to develop sustainably.
