The Driver and Vehicle Licencing Authority (DVLA) has inaugurated a new ultra-modern office building at Techiman to serve as its Bono East Regional headquarters.
The new two-story Bono East Regional DVLA building consists of 15 furnished offices and two bays, with a spacious compound that has the capacity to accommodate about 50 cars at any moment.
The DVLA in Techiman had since 2004 operated from the premises of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU). The place was too small to conveniently accommodate both DVLA staff and high client inflow, thus creating congestion that negatively impacted productivity.
Inaugurating the building, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, Minister for Transport, said the new Bono East Regional DVLA office marks the beginning of a new era in giving facelifts to all the Authority’s regional offices in the country.
“As part of the transformation agenda, a number of existing DVLA offices are undergoing upgrade to improve service delivery to the public. To ensure safety for vehicles and promote good driving standards in the country, the institution has also introduced cutting-edge technologies to enhance the process of issuing driver licence and vehicle registration,” he said.
The minister explained that the paradigm-shift includes an online vehicle registration system (VRS) to reduce turnaround time in the registration process; enhancing security to eliminate identity-theft and false representation, adding: “It is fully integrated with the Integrated Customs Management (ICUMS) and the National Identification Authority databases”.
On his part, Chief Executive Officer-DVLA, Kwasi Agyeman Busia, said since 2017 the Authority has provided prominent office accommodation to enhance efficiency of DVLA services across the country. He mentioned completing offices in Koforidua, Takoradi and Cape Coast, Denu and Akatsi of the Volta Region, as well as Obuasi-Ashanti Region, among others.
He announced that by second quarter 2024, construction work will begin on new DVLA offices at Wenchi, Damango and Dambai – while the Sewfi-Wiawso and Goaso offices will receive a facelift. “This demonstrates our commitment to serving clients and ensuring service delivery is taken to the people’s doorsteps.”
The Chief Executive, on behalf of DVLA’s board and management, commended the chief of Hansua, Nana Apenteng Fosu Gyeabour – who made land available for the new office complex’s construction.
