United Bank for Africa (Ghana) Limited has cut sod for construction works on its head office at West Cantonment, Accra.
The new facility, when completed, seeks to move the bank’s current head office to its own building; and will emphasise UBA Ghana’s vision of the future of banking.
The design of the eight-floor grade-A building project demonstrates the bank’s commitment to promoting environmental sustainability in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG).
At a brief sod-cutting ceremony in Accra, Managing Director of UBA Ghana, Chris Ofikulu, said the iconic building will be environmentally friendly and provide enough space and flexibility to better support the businesses of its customers as well as the bank’s operations.
Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of UBA Africa, Abiola Bawuah, added that the stride forms part of the bank’s zeal to provide strong financial services to Ghanaians, while emphasising UBA’s dedication to giving sustainable banking the highest priority.
The Board Chair of UBA Ghana, Kweku A. Awotwi, iterated that the groundbreaking ceremony is not just about laying the foundation for a physical structure, but it symbolises the foundation of enduring commitment to providing superior financial services, fostering innovation and contributing to the socio-economic development of Ghana.
“I am filled with immense pride and optimism for the future. Congratulations to the board and management of UBA for the dedication and commitment that has brought us to the beginning of this project. Our dedicated customers, our exceptional executive team, our partners and, of course, our incredible staff.
“As we embark on this building venture, let us keep in mind the core mission to be a role model for African businesses is fortified by the determination we showcase today. Together, we are crafting a narrative of progress and success… May this building serve as a symbol of our collective dedication to a prosperous future,” he added.
United Bank for Africa (Ghana) Limited pioneered the entry of a new generation of foreign banks into the country in January 2005.
The presence of UBA Ghana in the banking industry in Ghana over the last thirteen years has galvanised banking onto a higher performance level, where competition and innovation in responding to the needs of the customer have become the driving force of the industry.
