Domestic carriers have resumed flights to Tamale, Kumasi and Takoradi, some eight hours after they were forced to cancel flights due to a strike action by Air Traffic Controllers on Tuesday morning.
The workers called-off the strike after an extensive close-door meeting with the Minister of Transport, Dzifa Attivor, on Tuesday afternoon.
It could be recalled that air traffic controllers on Tuesday suspended their services to domestic airline operators. This forced domestic airlines to cancel flights leaving hundreds of passengers stranded at the Kotoka, Kumasi, and Tamale airports.
Some passengers B&FT Online spoke to at the domestic terminal of the KIA, said they have been waiting for over two hours to fly to their various destinations from Accra.
The striking controllers want air navigation services to be decoupled from the regulatory function of the GCAA.
They want the prompt resolution of flight information regime between Ghana, Togo, and Benin.
Furthermore, they want the appointment of a Deputy Director General (Technical) so that he can handle technical issues affecting the industry.
The Minister of Transport, Dzifa Attivor, at a news briefing Monday said the issues raised are being addressed.
