A strike action by Air Traffic Controllers on Monday forced domestic airlines to cancel flights leaving hundreds of passengers stranded at the Kotoka, Kumasi, and Tamale airports.
Some passengers B&FT Online spoke to at the domestic terminal of the KIA, said they have been waiting for over two hours to fly to their various destinations from Accra.
The Air Traffic Controllers a month ago threatened a strike action if their conditions of service were not improved. Unsuccessful negotiations between the Air Traffic Controllers Association and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority led to the strike action on Monday.
Contingency measures put in place by GCAA has not kicked in two hours after all flights to Kumasi, Takoradi, Tamale and Sunyani were grounded.
Passengers flying on Antrak, Starbow, Africa World Airlines, and Fly540 have had to wait at the domestic terminal for hours for the situation to normalise.
B&FT Online has learnt that persons the GCAA had put on standby,as part of their contingency plan, were refused entry into the control area by the striking ATC workers.
Meanwhile all international flights are on schedule and are not affected by the strike action
