About 338 suspected criminals, including 65 females, were yesterday dawn arrested in a police cum military operation in the Accra metropolis.
The suspects, who were between the ages of 15 and 50 years, were apprehended at Redco flats at Adenta and Madina and other areas.
The police retrieved quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, gambling boxes, and daggers from some of the suspects, the Deputy Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, Inspector (Insp) Kwabena Danso disclosed these to the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.
Insp Danso said some of the female suspects were arrested for engaging in commercial sex activities.
He said the suspects, including some foreigners, were in the custody of the police and were being screened.
Insp Danso said the exercise would be sustained and appealed to the public to collaborate with the police by providing reliable information to ensure the reduction of crimes in the country.
He said the dried leaves would be taken to the forensic laboratory for analyses.
The Ghanaian Times reported in its Friday, September 13, 2019 issue, of similar separate operations conducted in which 354 suspected criminals were arrested at Budumburam near Kasoa in the Central Region and European Town and Bosomtwe Sam Fishing Harbour, Sekondi, in the Western Region.
According to the police, the security agencies had intensified the war against crime, by taking the fight to the doorstep of criminals.
