Students of Ghana-Lebanon Islamic Senior High School (GLISS), Class of 2019, on Saturday graduated from the school, with a call on them to keep the standards of the school aloft.
"We have taught you what you knew not so that as you go out there to the larger community, you will serve as the light in the world," the headmaster, Sumaila Mohammed, told the students.
The 132 Class of 2019 made up of 36 males and 96 females enrolled in September 2017 and have completed their West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (WASSCE), awaiting their results to continue to tertiary institutions.
"We have taken these students through vigorous academic training inspired by the belief that no academic achievement is meaningful if it is not linked to the total submission of the will of Allah," he added.
Mr Mohammed suggested the need to establish a students' endowment fund in the school to help needy students saying "we should make it a point that no student drops out of GLISS because they cannot pay their fees."
Aisha Ahmed, on behalf of the graduating class, expressed appreciation to the teaching staff "for setting the foundation for our future and we are prepared to move to greater heights."
The director of the school, Bala Sa-ad, said GLISS was a scholarly institution with high standards of academic excellence, having been the best Senior High School in Greater Accra Region in 2010 and 10th nationwide.
He stressed on discipline as the cornerstone of academic pursuit, underscoring the fact that since the school was established in 2000, there had not been student demonstrations against the school authority.
He urged parents to help maintain a standard of discipline and academic work by not defaulting on the payment of their wards school fees, to keep the school going.
Dr Abdul-Raheem Adada, a past student, advised the students to see their graduation from GLISS as a stepping stone to acquire more skills and knowledge to become "useful tools for change in the society."
Seth Ibrahim Owusu, former President of the Ghana Muslim Academy, advised the students to strive to attain greater heights after the WASSCE.
President of the GLISS Old Students Association (GLOSA) inducted the students into the association and urged them to contribute to the development of their alma mater.
