Ho — WORK has begun on a GH?600,000 six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities for the United R.C Primary School at Alavanyo Kpeme in the Hohoe municipality.
The project, scheduled to be completed in three months is being funded by the Ngoyinyonufiaga (Development Queen) Mamaga Akosua I of SASADU.
SASADU is comprised of Alavanyo, Sovie, Akrofu and Saviefe.
When completed, the school block will also have a 12-seater water closet toilet, in addition to a borehole which will provide water for the community as well.
Performing the sod-cutting ceremony at the weekend, Mamaga Akosua said that, investment in education was a wise and a noble undertaking as the facility will remain for many decades to serve generations yet unborn.
She said that, the project was overdue as a result of the conflict between the people of Alavanyo and their next door neighbours in Nkonya.
The development queen who has supported many educational projects in the area over the years, said that it was high time a solution to the land dispute was found, to open the doors for more development projects in the area.
She urged the contractors, HAB Amenyo Company Limited, a local firm, to do a sterling work and also complete the job according to schedule.
The Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Teddy Ofori, commended Mamaga Akosua for her firm stance to promote education in the area and described her as an icon of development.
He pledged on behalf of the municipal assembly to support the project with furniture.
The Paramount Chief of Alavanyo, Togbe Tsedze Atakora VII who chaired the function, said that although the school was within a Catholic premise, it would benefit every child in the area.
He noted that the project was yet another testimony to Mamaga Akosua's dedication to development in the area.
