Ghanaian undefeated World Boxing Organisation (WBO) super bantamweight champion, Isaac Dogboe's next defence of his title against highly ranked contender, Emanuel Navarette Martinez has been declared a mandatory defence by the WBO.
The decision was made at last week's convention of the WBO which took many other decisions including the December 8 date confirmation for the fight.
The 23-year old challenger Navarette is a tough and rugged Mexican fighter with 25 wins and one defeat and is rated second contender to Dogboe.
With the mandatory defence declaration, Dogboe will have more flexibility regarding the subsequent title defense assuming he wins against Navarette, a WBO communication explained.
With the fight declared a mandatory title defense Dogboe will have nine months after the Navarette fight before he will be required to make a subsequent mandatory title defense.
This also opens up the possible world title fight in Ghana in 2019 by giving Team Dogboe more flexibility in solidifying the proposed homecoming.
According to Mike Altamura, Matchmaker for Team Dogboe, the current number one contender, Diego De La Hoya, has expressed no objection to the move.
"I talked to Golden Boy Promotions (promoters of De La Hoya) and they agreed," Altamura said.
