The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC), under the leadership of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has announced a clean-up exercise across all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies.
This exercise, scheduled for Saturday, June 21, 2025, marks the third of such activities since the Minister assumed office earlier this year.
The clean-up effort aims to promote environmental cleanliness, improve sanitation, and enhance public health in communities across the Ashanti Region.
The first clean-up took place on March 6, 2025, as part of Ghana’s Independence Day celebrations. A second round was organized on April 12, 2025, during the AshantiFest festivities, which highlighted culture, tourism, and development within the region.
This latest announcement also comes at a significant time, as the Ashanti Region prepares to welcome His Majesty the King of Eswatini on an official visit to be hosted by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The clean-up initiative is intended to ensure the region presents a clean and dignified environment befitting the occasion.
In addition to these activities, the ARCC—with support from the Regional NADMO Directorate—has been undertaking a desilting campaign in flood-prone areas throughout May and early June.
This proactive measure aims to mitigate the risk of flooding during the rainy season and protect lives and property.
Dr. Frank Amoakohene stressed on the importance of community participation in the clean-up, appealing to all residents, assembly members, civil society groups, and traditional leaders to join hands in making the region cleaner and safer.
“We must continue to uphold the image of the Ashanti Region as the heartbeat of Ghana,” he stated. “Cleanliness is not only a civic responsibility but a foundation for public health and development.”
The ARCC has assured that logistics and coordination mechanisms are in place to support all assemblies in the successful execution of the exercise.
