Police have arrested a key suspect in connection with the gruesome murder of a Senior Lecturer from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), whose body was recently discovered secretly buried in his own home.
A major breakthrough in the ongoing investigation came as authorities confirmed that several personal belongings of the deceased lecturer were found in the possession of the arrested individual.
The suspect, identified as Joshua Karry Arthur, was apprehended yesterday, Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the lecturer’s residence in Essuokyir, a suburb of Winneba.
This arrest followed a report filed by the lecturer’s colleagues a day earlier, prompting police officers to visit the home, where they made the grim discovery.
Investigators found blood stains within the house, which led them to a nearby heap of sand, approximately 23 meters away, under which the lecturer’s body was found buried.

The remains have since been retrieved and deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Crucially, items recovered directly from Joshua Karry Arthur have been confirmed to belong to the deceased lecturer. These include two Samsung phones, a laptop, a 50-inch television, and a car key to a Toyota Fortuner, all providing significant evidence in the ongoing investigation.
Joshua Karry Arthur is currently in police custody, actively assisting with investigations, and is expected to be formally arraigned before court soon. The Central Regional Police Command has assured the public of their unwavering commitment to pursuing justice in this case.
