Panic gripped traders and residents of Chiana on Thursday afternoon after four armed men carried out a brazen daylight robbery at the town’s main market, making away with large sums of cash.
The incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. when the assailants, riding in pairs on two motorbikes, stormed the bustling market and fired gunshots indiscriminately to create panic and disperse the crowd.
According to eyewitnesses, the robbers targeted at least two shops during the attack. Affected shop owners reported the loss of significant amounts of money.
“The gunshots sent everyone running for their lives. They just went straight to the shops and took the money,” a visibly shaken resident recounted.
Following the robbery, the attackers fled on the same motorbikes they arrived on. Their direction of escape remains unknown, and no injuries or fatalities have been reported so far.
A joint police-military team arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and has since secured the area. Security officials have confirmed that investigations are ongoing and assured the public that every effort is being made to apprehend the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, traders and residents are calling for increased security presence in Chiana, especially on market days, to help prevent future incidents.
