The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has extended the deadline for the transition to the new gold trading license regime to June 21, 2025.
In an earlier statement, GoldBod had set May 21, 2025 as the deadline for all gold traders to transition from the defunct PMMC license to the new GoldBod license.
However, a statement issued on Thursday, May 22, 2025 by Prince Minkah, Media Relations Officer of GoldBod said all persons who hold license issued by the defunct PMMC or the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources are permitted to trade in gold until the day of the new deadline.
GoldBod emphasized that even though a person may apply for a GoldBod license beyond the new non-extendable deadline of June 21, 2025, only holders of a GoldBod license will be allowed to purchase, sell or deal in gold after this new date.
By this new date, the use of a license issued by PMMC after the new deadline date will constitute a breach of the directive which will be a punishable offense under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (ACT 1140).
Additionally, GoldBod says notwithstanding the extension of the deadline, it has suspended the export function of licenses issued by the Lands Ministry.
Effective May 22, 2025, all gold traders whose licenses were issued by the Lands Ministry cease to export small-scale gold from Ghana.
GoldBod encouraged all persons desirous of trading or dealing in gold in Ghana, to apply for a license via www.goldbod.gov.gh.
“It is worthy of note, that the license application process is an ongoing process and will continue even after the new non-extendable deadline of 21st June, 2025, save that, a person without a GoldBod license cannot trade or deal in gold in Ghana after this deadline,” GoldBod said in its statement.
