
The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has made an additional payment of GHS259,546,601.77 to credentialed healthcare providers across the country.
According to the NHIA, this reinforces its commitment to timely reimbursement and financial sustainability within Ghana’s health sector.
The disbursement, approved by NHIA Chief Executive Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, covers claims submitted by public, private, mission, and quasi-public health facilities.
The payments were effected in May 2025, within a 21-day turnaround time, reflecting significant strides in operational efficiency.
A breakdown of the payment reveals that:
• Public health facilities received GHS112,607,239.74, representing 43% of the total amount.
• Private facilities were paid GHS104,643,070.75 (40%).
• Mission facilities received GHS40,015,892.20 (15%).
• Quasi-public facilities were allocated GHS2,280,399.08 (1%).
This latest disbursement pushes the total claims payments for 2025 to over GHS1.1 billion (GHS1,103,028,808.59), demonstrating the Authority’s resolve to sustain the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and empower healthcare providers to continue delivering quality services.
In a statement issued by the NHIA Corporate Affairs Directorate on May 21, the Authority reaffirmed its focus on improving efficiency, strengthening provider relations, and ensuring timely payments. It also expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their ongoing support and emphasized its dedication to transparency and accountability.
The NHIA’s prompt payments come at a crucial time when provider confidence and consistent funding are key to achieving universal health coverage for all Ghanaians.
