Mpox cases have risen to four after the Ghana Health Service (GHS) confirmed two additional infections.
The confirmation was announced by the GHS in a press release dated Sunday, May 18, 2025, following their last update on Thursday, May 15.
The two newly confirmed cases were identified in the Greater Accra Region and the Western Region, with one case in each region.
This brings the total number of confirmed Mpox cases in the country to four (4) as of May 18. Preliminary assessments conducted by the National Public Health and Reference Laboratory (NPHRL) indicate that these newly confirmed cases currently have no epidemiological link to the earlier reported cases.
Following the confirmation, the respective Regional Health Directorates have promptly activated public health measures.
These include rigorous contact tracing efforts to identify potential exposures and prevent further spread of the virus within communities.
The GHS also took the opportunity to remind the public that Mpox is a viral disease transmitted through close contact with an infected person or animal, or contaminated materials.
Common symptoms associated with the infection include a rash, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.
Th statement further noted that the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service are collaborating and calling on all media houses to support public education efforts, urging them to use their platforms to raise awareness and provide accurate information on Mpox to the public.
