Political Analyst, Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere has criticised the conduct of Acting Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi who was captured in a viral video gifting dollar notes to controversial Evangelist, Nana Agradaa.
In an interview on TV3 New Day’s Big Issue, May 13, 2025, Dr. Otchere noted that the conduct by the National Communications Officer of the NDC presents a negative perception about the government to the public.
He said although Sammy Gyamfi has apologized for his conduct, the President must take action against the GoldBod CEO.
“It does not look good for the optics in terms of political effect of it. Whichever way we look at it, it is not good for the optics for the grassroot. And it is not good for the optics for the party and the Presidency because not long ago the President launched the Code of Conduct.
“He must purge himself before the grassroot, he must purge himself before the neutrals of this country, he must purge himself before the Presidency and party structure,” he explained.
Dr. Otchere noted that any attempt to justify Sammy Gyamfi’s action will infuriate the grassroot because the recipient of the gift was a stern critic of the NDC and President Mahama while he was in opposition.
“The subject matter is the fact that it is Agradaa and that is the more reason why they don’t need to justify that to the grassroot. That will infuriate them and that’s the more reason why I appreciate that he apologised unconditionally,” he added.
The Senior lecturer at the University of Cape Coast disagrees with calls for the dismissal of the GoldBod CEO.
“I don’t believe that this meets the threshold of a sacking, not at all that’s why I said he must purge himself,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah has held meeting with Sammy Gyamfi over the matter on Monday, May 12, 2025.
According to our sources, Gyamfi left the Presidency around 11:00 a.m., appearing remorseful and pensive, following the closed-door meeting.
