Black Satellites talisman Jerry Afriyie is set to reunite with his teammates ahead of Ghana’s quarter finals tie against Egypt.
Afriyie, who was called up to the tournament, featured as a second half substitute in Ghana’s opening game against Dr. Congo before starting Ghana’s second group game against Senegal.
However, the forward returned to his club side, CD Lugo, per initial agreement between the Ghana Football Association and Lugo.
The agreement was for Afriyie to play in Ghana’s two opening games and return.
Upon his return to his club, Afriyie proved his importance to the team, scoring and providing an assist on Saturday as he helped Lugo rescue a point in a 2-2 draw as they strive to maintain their Spanish third tier status.
The winger has already assisted a goal in the ongoing U20 AFCON and has been an inspirational part of Desmond Ofei’s success story as Black Satellites manager.
Afriyie was named best player and top scorer in the WAFU B, a qualification tournament to the U20 AFCON.
Ghana, who won the U20 AFCON in 2009, have yet to qualify for the tournament since 2015 and will be eager to participate in September’s edition in Chile.
Progression to the semi final guarantees the team an automatic semi final berth.
