Samuel Seth Kwabena Kyere Karikari, popularly known as Koo Ofori, the renowned actor from the popular TV series “Efiewura,” has been apprehended by the Accra Central Police Command.
His arrest follows allegations of defrauding a Ghanaian residing in the United States of $50,000.
Police sources indicate that the victim, based in California, transferred the substantial sum to Koo Ofori under the guise of a legitimate investment opportunity.
However, the actor allegedly failed to uphold the agreed terms and subsequently evaded contact.
After numerous unsuccessful attempts to recover the funds, the US-based Ghanaian reported the incident to the authorities.
Investigations by the police revealed that Koo Ofori had not only defaulted on the repayment but had also disregarded a summons to appear before the Dansoman District Court in Accra on April 17, 2025. This non-appearance prompted the court to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.
A video circulating on Facebook, shared by Accra-based Atinka TV, captured the moment of the actor’s arrest. The footage shows Koo Ofori being handcuffed and escorted by police officers. He was taken into custody following his apprehension.
While he was initially scheduled to appear in court today, May 9, 2025, his arraignment has been postponed. The case has now been adjourned to Monday, May 12, 2025, and Koo Ofori is expected to remain in police custody until his court appearance.
