Ghana is building something big — a world-class Petroleum Hub that’s set to transform the Western region and position Ghana as a major player in global energy and trade, the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has said in its newsletter.
Spanning over 20,000 acres, at Jomoro in the Western Region of Ghana, the Hub will be developed in three phases.
They will feature: Three mega refineries with a combined capacity of 900,000 barrels per day (bpsd), Five cutting-edge petrochemical plants with total capacity of 450,000 bpsd, Massive storage tanks holding up to 10 million cubic meters, Multiple jetties with extensive berth facilities, A range of support infrastructure to power it all.
The GIPC said, “The Hub is well-positioned for global trade. Its strategic coastal location offers direct access to key global shipping routes. It’s designed to accommodate VLCCs and ULCCs, with deep waters ranging from 5 to 27 meters, making it ideal for heavy-duty maritime trade.”
The hub is a groundbreaking megaproject development in the Jomoro district of the Western Nzema Area.
The PHub, which is intended to be a leading integrated petroleum complex, is a critical giant step in creating value to the up and downstream oil and gas value chain on the African continent.
Upon completion, the hub will house a complex web of onshore, offshore and ancillary assets not limited to refineries, petrochemical plants and storage tanks intended to change the face of the petrochemical industry on the continent.
It is expected to transform the economy through export tax of about $1.56 billion by 2030, increase GDP by about 70 percent and create jobs in excess of 780,000.
