An 18-year-old unemployed man, Samuel Okyere, popularly known as Opare, has been sentenced to two years in prison for stealing a motorbike at Stone Village, a suburb of Bogoso in the Western Region.
The Bogoso Magistrate Court handed down the sentence after Okyere pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing.
Presenting the facts of the case, Chief Inspector Kwame Felix Fumawor told the court that the complainant, an apprentice residing at Stone Village, had parked his motorbike registered M-23-AW 4362 in front of his residence on Sunday, April 13, 2025, around 7:00 p.m.
Thirty minutes later, he realized the ignition key, which he had kept in his room, was missing. Rushing outside, he discovered the motorbike had also vanished.
The complainant and some friends launched a search and, by the following day, Monday, April 14, they found the stolen motorbike being dismantled at a mechanic shop along the Bepoh–Bawdie road.
When confronted, the mechanic revealed that Okyere and two others had brought the bike to him to be disassembled. The accused reportedly told the mechanic he intended to sell the bike.
With the help of friends, the complainant apprehended Okyere and the two others and handed them over to the police.
In his caution statement, Okyere admitted to breaking into the complainant’s room to steal the ignition key before making away with the motorbike.
The court, upon his confession and plea, convicted and sentenced him to two years imprisonment.
