
President John Mahama has appointed Matilda Asante-Asiedu as the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
The appointment, made under Section 17 of the Bank of Ghana Act, 2002 (Act 612), was officially announced in a statement by the President’s Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu on Monday, April 28, 2025.
Matilda Asante-Asiedu is presented as a versatile corporate leader with a distinguished career that spans Retail Banking, Strategic Marketing Communications, Corporate Reputation Management, Governmental Relations, and Journalism. Her most recent role is Group Head, Retail Banking at Access Bank Ghana Plc, where she manages a diverse portfolio including individual customers, M/SMEs, High Net-worth individuals, Consumer Finance, and Bancassurance.
A key highlight of her career is her leadership of the bank’s financial inclusion strategy for women, known as the W Initiative. This initiative has garnered international and local recognition, notably the “Global Financial Inclusion Award” from The Banker Magazine in 2020.
Before her appointment as Group Head for Retail Banking in July 2017, Asante-Asiedu served as Head of Exclusive Banking.
In this position, she was responsible for the execution and promotion of the bank’s strategy for women, as well as overseeing the Embassies and NGO’s portfolios and Private Banking.
Her experience also extends to Corporate Communications and Brand Management, a role she held between May 2010 and June 2015. During this period, she demonstrated expertise in Corporate Reputation Management and Stakeholder Engagement, enhancing the bank’s reputation and leading community investment projects that earned the bank awards for Best Bank in Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability in 2012, 2013, and 2015.
Earlier in her career, Matilda Asante-Asiedu was a prominent figure in Ghanaian journalism, influencing political and socio-economic discussions during Ghana’s transition in multi-party constitutional rule from 1997 to 2009. She also served as a consultant/specialist for several international organizations, including the World Bank and DFID, contributing to communication strategies for development initiatives in Ghana and internationally.
Her achievements have been widely recognized, including being named among the Top 100 Inspirational Women in Africa by Glitz Africa and Crown Women Rising in 2019.
