The Doctors’ Association of Tamale Teaching Hospital (DATTH) has called of its strike.
Members have thus been asked to resume full operations.
This follows a meeting with the Minister of Health which was facilitated by the Ghana Medical Association.
A press release dated April 26 said “The DATTH calls off the suspension of services and calls on all doctors to resume all services with immediate effect at Tamale Teaching Hospital. The Association will work with hospital management, the Ministry of Health, and other stakeholders to ensure a safe working environment and the availability of logistics to facilitate healthcare delivery,”
It would be recalled that The Doctors’ Association of Tamale Teaching Hospital (DATTH) embarked on an industrial action on 23rd April, 2025, following an unfortunate incident that occurred during the visit of the Minister of Health, Honourable Kwabena Mintah Akandoh on 22nd April, 2025.
Subsequently, the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health and a Delegation from the Overlord of Dagbon, His Majesty Ndan Yaa-Naa Abukari II, also visited and interacted with members of DATTH regarding the impasse as well as the challenges members face in discharging their duties.
According to DATTH, “In consultation with the National Executive Council of the GMA, as a sign of goodwill and in recognition of the challenges faced by patients visiting the facility, Emergency services were restored from 2:00pm, on Friday, 25th April, 2025.
The GMA subsequently on the same day facilitated a meeting with the Minister of Health accompanied by other officials. At this meeting, the Minister of Health expressed his regret over the challenges the hospital has faced over the years and the unfortunate incident that occurred.”
The press released added that the Minister of Health “emphasized his respect for members of DATTH and his commitment to work with the leadership to ensure a safe working environment, the availability of requested logistics to support our work, and continued collaboration to improve healthcare delivery. The Minister also took the opportunity to speak to Dr. Valentine Akulpwa and expressed his regret for the turn of events.
