Kwabena Badu, father of fast-rising Ghanaian musician, Yaw Darling has disclosed that he never wished for his son to be a musician.
In an interview on TV3’s Afternoon Show on Monday, April 7, 2025, Mr. Badu noted that the musician was a good footballer while growing up and all he wished was for Kweku Darlington to be a footballer in future.
However, life made its own choice for Yaw Darling, making him a musician. His father said he’s now glad with his progress with his career.
“When I gave birth to him, I thought he would be a footballer. He was really good with football so I never even thought he would become a musician. Throughout his school days, he was playing football.
“I’m happier for him now despite not being a footballer,” he stated.
The musician who has been nominated for the Unsung Artiste category for the 26th TGMA, lived most of his life with his auntie after the passing of his mother while he was very young.
Mr. Badu further advised his son to be humble and learn from seniors in the industry.
“The advise I can give to my son is he should be e careful with friends and take his relationship with God serious and be humble, listen to advice from seniors in the industry and live his life as someone from an humble background.”
Yaw Darling’s nomination comes on the heels of an impressive year marked by significant milestones in his musical journey. His latest single, “PASSWORD,” has been a game-changer, amassing remarkable streaming numbers across digital platforms.
This prestigious category, powered by Close Up Ghana and the British Council, recognizes promising talents making waves in the music industry.
The song has also ignited a viral dance challenge led by DanceLord, taking social media by storm and further solidifying Yaw Darling’s growing influence.
In addition to his chart success, Yaw Darling embarked on a UK tour earlier this year, where he captivated audiences with electrifying performances and engaged with international fans. His ability to connect with a global audience speaks to his immense potential and growing footprint in the music scene.
