The President of the Local Government Service Engineers Association, Engineer Richard Ben Debrah, has called for the integration of maker education in schools, urging students to develop hands-on skills and creativity that could contribute significantly to economic growth.
Speaking at the Nyakrom Senior High Technical School during the school’s Students’ Representative Council Week Celebration, Engineer Ben Debrah emphasized the importance of creativity in shaping the future of the country.
He encouraged the students to embrace creative thinking as a tool for finding innovative solutions to the country’s socio-economic challenges.
“Creativity has empowered students in countries like China to develop cutting-edge robotics and intelligent drones. They have also found creative solutions to pressing environmental issues, such as sustainable fashion and eco-friendly products. I urge you, dear students, to develop your own creative solutions to the challenges we face in our country, whether they are related to the environment, society, or the economy,” he said.
He further urged the students to unlock their potential, highlighting the power of creativity.
“Creativity is a powerful tool that can help you achieve your dreams, make a positive impact, and leave your mark on the world. Do not be afraid to think outside the box, challenge the status quo, and unleash your inner potential.”
Engineer Ben Debrah also underscored the need for a supportive environment to nurture students creativity.
He stressed that both the government and the Ministry of Education must play a critical role in creating a conducive atmosphere that encourages innovation.
“More importantly, government, teachers, and parents must work together to provide the necessary resources and a nurturing environment to ensure that students have the tools and support they need to excel.”
