
The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has stated that a properly positioned port could create the needed jobs to help reduce the unemployment situation in the country.
Speaking to the Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Brigadier General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, at the Western Regional Coordinating Council, he was positive that institutions working along the value chain of the port business would be enhanced to make this possible.
Unemployment, especially among young people has become a major concern in recent years, putting significant pressure on governments to find a lasting solution.
In the Western Region, the once vibrant Takoradi Port and railways which provided jobs are very challenged.
Speaking during a courtesy call on him by the Director General of the GPHA, Mr Nelson opined that a well-positioned port can be a game-changer for the region, driving economic growth, creating jobs, and generating revenue.
“As the Regional Coordinating Council, we are committed to partnering with you to drive progress through the port, ensuring it has a positive impact on the economy of Sekondi-Takoradi, the Western Region, and beyond.”
“As the Regional Minister, I am eager to witness this progress firsthand and explore ways we can, to collaborate to share ideas, foster growth, and create opportunities for others.”
Meanwhile Brigadier General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, has pledged his full cooperation as he takes the reins of the authority.
“I am here to formally introduce myself as a tenant under your jurisdiction, which oversees the port and fishing harbour. I kindly seek your prayers for the success of my endeavors and would like to pledge my full cooperation.”
“I am committed to working hand in hand with you to contribute to the betterment of Sekondi-Takoradi and the Western Region as a whole.” He pledged.
Brigadier General Tanye-Kulono, during the visit, was accompanied by Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Dr. Kingsley Antwi Bosiako and the Takoradi Director of Port, Peter Amoh Bediako.
