
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has inaugurated a 17-member ministerial committee with the goal of reviving the regions’s declining Kumawood film industry.
The committee, chaired by Bishop Ofori-Adu has been tasked with creating a strategic framework to revitalize the industry and provide long-term employment opportunities for players in the industry.
Also, the committee is expected to assessing the current state of the industry and identifying key challenges, developing policies to attract investment and ensure sustainable growth, explore strategies to promote Ghanaian films both locally and internationally and strengthen film infrastructure by improving production facilities and training opportunities.
Additionally, the Minister charged the committee to enhance film festivals and cultural showcases to celebrate Ghanaian storytelling and creativity and foster collaboration between stakeholders to create more opportunities for filmmakers, actors, and creatives.
The committee comprises representatives from various sectors of the film industry, including veteran actors Oheneyere Mercy Asiedu and Bill Asamoah.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, March 4, Dr. Amoakohene urged the members to remain united and dedicated to their mandate, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in achieving their objectives.
“We as leaders of the country, all we need from you is to unite and work together, because that unity will encourage the president to push more effort to revive the industry. So unity is very key to us as far as the issue is concerned.”
