Ghana’s leading media conglomerate, Media General, has officially launched Ghana Month, a month-long celebration dedicated to honouring the country’s independence and showcasing its rich cultural heritage.
Ghana gained independence from colonial rule on March 6, 1957, and March has since been designated as a time to reflect on the nation’s history, traditions, and achievements.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Promoting National Cohesion Through Culture.” Throughout the month, Media General will host a series of radio, television, and online programs aimed at commemorating the occasion and engaging Ghanaians in discussions about unity, heritage, and national identity.
The launch event, held on Monday, March 3, at the New Ghana Village, was attended by key figures from government, media, and traditional leadership. Speaking at the event, Nuamah Eshun-Famiyeh, Group Chief Operating Officer of Media General, encouraged the public to actively participate in promoting and preserving Ghana’s heritage throughout the month.
Dignitaries in attendance included:
- Nii Teiko Okai Reindorf, a representative of the Ga Mantse
- Divine Owusu Ansah, Director of Creative Arts, representing the Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Creative Arts
- Past and present queens of TV3 Ghana’s Most Beautiful
- Veteran actor David Dontoh
Guests were treated to a variety of traditional Ghanaian dishes and beverages, including Brukina, Lamugin, Sobolo, Asana, Gob? (rice and beans), and Kosua ne Meko (boiled egg with pepper sauce).
The event also featured captivating cultural performances by the NutefeWorla Cultural Troupe and the Efadzinam Borborbor Band, creating a vibrant and immersive experience that highlighted Ghana’s rich artistic traditions.
The Ghana Month celebration aims to foster national unity and pride by highlighting Ghana’s diverse cultural traditions and historical legacy. Media General’s platforms will continue to showcase special programs, documentaries, and cultural events throughout the month to engage the public and promote a deeper appreciation of Ghana’s heritage.
