The Chairman of the National Economic Dialogue Planning Committee, Dr. Ishmael Yamson, has said President John Dramani Mahama’s pledge to reset Ghana’s economy will not be a simple task.
He said rebuilding the economy will be a difficult journey coupled with risks and frustrations from both internal and external sources.
However, he expressed his confidence that the project will succeed under President Mahama’s resolute leadership because the Ghanaian people are prepared to support this objective.
Speaking at the National Economic Dialogue on Monday, March 3, under the theme: “Resetting Ghana: Building the Economy We Want Together”, Dr. Yamson stressed that most of the nation’s economic problems are domestic and self-inflicted.
Notwithstanding the severity of these problems, he pointed out that both the people and the leadership through unity and collaborative efforts can find solution to the economic problems.
“I must agree that in the last 68 years of Independence, Ghana has also suffered severe disruptions and dislocations from external shocks, but the stark truth is that the overwhelming majority of our problems are homegrown and self-inflicted. Only our leaders and the people of Ghana can and must resolve these issues. Let us take responsibility for resetting our destiny with our own hands.
“The journey to reset Ghana will not be easy. It will be rough, full of risks and frustrations from within and outside. However, with the determined leadership you have promised and the ownership you take, you shall succeed.
“Besides, there are many Ghanaians who are ready to stand by you and work with you to deliver your bold vision,” he stated.
