Political Strategist, Dr. Bernard Tutu-Boahene has called for a national framework to deal with the unemployment crisis in the country.
Speaking in an interview on TV3’s New Day ahead of the commencement of the National Economic Dialogue, Dr. Tutu-Boahene said by the end of the Dialogue, a strategic plan should have been formulated to address the mass unemployment across the country.
He stressed that such an action will contribute immensely to reviving the country’s economy.
“Basically, we know that unemployment is a key issue confronting this country… We need to get some of these people, at least half of them meaningful and decent jobs.
“It is very important that the President elected has come up with this economic dialogue. I think that one of the key things that the dialogue should be able to tackle and develop a framework to solve it is that issue of unemployment.
“If we are able to develop a long-term strategic plan after this meeting and it will be able to solve this unemployment, it will go a long way to help this country,” he said on Monday, March 3, 2025.
He further emphasised the need for government to also focus on an industrialization as a driving force to put the economy on a sound footing.
“As a country, we have not had that deliberate policy or an attempt that kind of commitment by the past Presidents to be able to industrialize our economy and that is one thing that is actually causing threat to our growth as a country,” he added.
The National Economic Dialogue (NED) will be held today, March 03, 2025, through to tomorrow Tuesday, March 04, at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
The programme, which is one of the major things promised by President John Dramani Mahama, is meant to highlight the major economic challenges facing the country and devise means that will help to address them.
This is meant to help chart a path toward sustainable economic growth.
Under the theme “Resetting Ghana: Building the Economy We Want Together,” President Mahama will outline his government’s vision for rebuilding Ghana’s economy in his keynote address at the forum.
