The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has recovered the nearly decomposed body of a young woman from a septic tank in Sunyani Magazine.
The discovery was made on the evening of Friday, February 28, 2025, following a distress call that prompted an emergency response from the Sunyani Municipal Fire Station.
Led by Station Officer Yahaya, the team arrived at the scene around 5:30 PM. Shortly after, Regional Operations Officer DO II Noekor joined the operation. The retrieval process was both challenging and sensitive, given the advanced state of decomposition.
According to preliminary reports, the victim was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend and dumped into the septic tank approximately three weeks ago.
Authorities believe the suspect attempted to conceal the crime by disposing of the body in the underground chamber.
The suspect has since been arrested, and the Ghana Police Service has taken custody of the remains to aid in their ongoing investigations.
Officials are yet to disclose the victim’s identity as forensic examinations and autopsy procedures are carried out.
The incident has left residents in shock, with many calling for justice for the deceased. Law enforcement agencies have assured the public of a thorough investigation to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the crime.
This case adds to a worrying trend of domestic-related homicides in the country, raising concerns about relationship violence and personal safety.
Authorities urge individuals to report signs of abuse or threats to law enforcement to prevent such tragic outcomes.
