Black Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren says the team is headed in the right direction despite losing to the Atlas Lionesses in a training tour friendly game in Morocco.
Ghana lost 1-0 to Morocco on February 21, extending the Black Queens’ winless streak to five games.
After winning 10 games on the trot under erstwhile coach Nora Hauptle, the Black Queens are yet to win in a game since December 2023, although playing a meagre five games; four defeats and a draw have been recorded in that time.
The latest setback, however, is seen as a learning curve for new coach Bjorkegren, who is bent on improving the team.
“I’m surprised in a good way how they are listening and really want to do their best for this group and also make the country proud of them,” he said.
“I’m feeling that we are moving in the right direction and I’m sure the next camp will be even better and I’m already looking forward to the next camp,” he added.
As part of their training tour, the Black Queens were expected to play two games – against Morocco and Raja Casablanca Athletic Women.
The second of the two games was, however, called off.
Ghana, who are three-time time runners-up up at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), will participate in the tournament for the first time since 2018 in the summer’s showpiece in Morocco.
