The Paramount Chief of Lower Dixcove Traditional Area in Ahanta West Municipality Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX, paid a courtesy call on Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson at the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) on February 24, 2025.
Accompanied by his elders, the traditional ruler expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for appointing Joseph Nelson as the Minister for the region.
This visit also marked a significant gesture of love and respect. As a loyal son of Ahanta, Joseph Nelson’s appointment is undoubtedly a source of pride for the community.
During the meeting with the Minister, the Paramount Chief and his entourage outlined several development projects that are urgently needed in Ahanta, emphasizing that these must be addressed by the government.
The key areas of focus include: Improving road infrastructure, the need for a reliable road network to facilitate transportation and economic growth, enhancing healthcare infrastructure, upgrading healthcare facilities to provide quality medical services to the community, developing education infrastructure, building and equipping modern schools to ensure access to quality education and creating job opportunities, as well as generating employment for the large number of unemployed youth in the area.
The Paramount Chief also appealed to the Minister to conduct himself very well in office against plots, temptations and anything capable of putting his name, his family and Ahanta reputation into jeopardy.
Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX asked Joseph Nelson to guard against discrimination in the discharge of his duties.
He said as the Regional Minister, he must treat all the Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts equal in the performance of his official duties.
The Chief also lauded his calm nature, demeanor as a public office holder, respect for humanity, intelligence and above all, his intellectual prowess in handling issues.
All these, together, he said make the Minister an exceptional character capable of handling the Western Region for purposes of peace, stability, unity and cohesion to drive development and growth.
Responding to the clarion call made by the traditional ruler and his elders with the message delivered, Joseph Nelson said he is aware of the dynamics of the region, its challenges, potentials and capabilities.
In Ahanta West for instance, he mentioned health challenges as being critical with reference to the district hospital and the lack of adequate facilities to handle patients as something he would assist to address.
Therefore, he said he would work with the right institutions, the right people and reposition the development direction of the region through concerted effort.
He also assured the Chief and his elders of his determination to work hard and redeem the image of Ahanta and for that matter Western Region.
He called for unity and cohesion among traditional authorities in the region while assuring them of effective collaboration to effect change and direct the path of growth in the region.
He appealed to the Chief who is also Vice President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs to work closely with President of the House, Nana Kobina Nketsia V to make the Western Region proud.
