
The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has provided update on the recent clash between students of Sokode Senior High Technical School and members of the Sokode community in the Ho Municipality.
The Minister in an interview with JoyNews said a total 22 individual have sustained injuries from the clash.
“About 22 persons were injured as a result of this incident, and all have been treated at various hospitals and discharged. This includes 19 students, eight girls, and eleven boys, as well as two residents from the community and one journalist,” he confirmed on Monday, 24 February, a day after the incident on the school’s premises.
Minister Gunu stated that calm had since been restored and “everything is normal now.”
He also confirmed that he had instructed the municipal education directorate to investigate the incident and “provide appropriate recommendations.”
Meanwhile, authorities have ordered closure of the Sokode Senior High Technical School in the Volta Regional capital Ho, following a violent confrontation between students and members of the Sokode Gborgame community.
The clash, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, left several people injured and caused significant property damage.
Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, along with Edem Kofi Kpotosu, Member of Parliament for Ho Central, and members of the Regional Security Council (RESEC), visited the school to assess the situation and restore calm.
A committee has been set up to investigate the cause of the disturbance and recommend preventive measures.
