Stephen Kofi Apemah-Baah, a name synonymous with academic brilliance, has enhanced his profile after he won Season 3 of the Mathleticus Math Tournament.
The Grade 12 student of Opoku Ware School, Kumasi, had the best of Math whizzes from Senior High Schools across the country to emerge as the Mathematician of the year 2025.
Baah, whose eye-pleasing performances in academic competitions have made him a household name, once again proved why his name is on the lips of all.
His triumph in Mathleticus 2025 cemented his status as a dominant force in the area of quizzes and competitions.
The 3rd edition of the Mathleticus Math Tournament, a fun Math competition organised by the ATDP/GOA, was a resounding success.
As one of the modules of the ATDP, the Mathleticus Math Tournament seeks to promote the Gifted and Talented Initiative, which emphasizes speed and accuracy in higher-order thinking skills.
Held at the GNAT Hall, Adabraka, Accra, on February 1, 2025, the competition witnessed some of the best Maths Sharks in Senior High Schools compete in a series of intense mathematical challenges.
Tournament Format
The Season 3 of Mathleticus Tournament brought together hundred (100) students drawn from the top High Schools in the country.
They were presented with brainy math questions, and tasked to apply their prowess in maths to solve them on a one-versus-one basis.
Each match consisted of three (3) questions, for which candidates were expected to buzz in with the right answer to each question under forty-five (45) seconds.
The idea was to test the agility and sharpness of the candidates in tackling complex mathematical equations.
In all, participants were exposed to over three hundred (300) critical math problems during the tournament.
Participating Schools
Season 3 of the Mathleticus Math Tournament drew participants from a bigger pool of Senior High Schools owing to its increasing attractiveness.
Participants came from Delhi Private School Int., KNUST Shs, Ghana Christian International High School, and Opoku Ware School.
The Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School- Legon, Wesley Girls’ SHS, and Hope College provided the remainder of the sharp brains for the tournament.
Top honours
Dr. Angela Tabiri, popularly known as the Maths Queen, and the first African to win the Big Internet Math-Off competition, and Mr Joel Eshun were the Quiz mistress and master who examined answers provided by candidates.
After multiple rounds, where each stage required a higher level of accuracy and precision, the race came down to the last two men standing.
According to the marking scheme of quiz mistress and master, Stephen Baah secured the highest score in the final round to emerge as the winner of Mathleticus 2025.
The top three performers after Stephen Baah who exhibited a firm grasp of Mathematics principles to the satisfaction of quiz mistress and quizmaster were Ariel Amoonoowa Asman (g10), Ghana Christian International High School, Mitchell Elikem Kwaku Oware (g10), Delhi Private School International, and Frempong Boateng Prince Yaw (g11), Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School-Legon.
For Stephen Apemah-Baah, his ability to solve complex problems under pressure, coupled with his meticulous approach to answering questions, was the key to his success.
As his prize for winning the Seniors category of the Mathleticus Math tournament for the year 2025, Stephen Baah received a certificate of participation, a gold medal and the coveted crystal trophy.
The second to fourth-placed candidates also received certificates of participation and silver and bronze medals.
