The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced the appointment of Dr. Shafic Suleman as its Acting Executive Secretary.
His appointment was made by President John Dramani Mahama under Section 33(1) of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission Act, 1997 (Act 538). He will serve in this role pending board approval in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
Dr. Suleman is a Senior Lecturer at the Institute for Oil and Gas Studies, University of Cape Coast, with expertise in energy sustainability, petroleum and energy economics, energy policy and law, climate change, and risk management.
His extensive academic background includes a PhD in Energy and Sustainability from De Montfort University, UK, an MSc in Energy Management from Robert Gordon University, UK, a BA in Geography from KNUST, and an LLB from the University of Cape Coast. He is also a certified Energy Risk Professional (ERP) from GARP-USA.
The PURC emphasized its commitment to protecting consumer interests and ensuring efficient utility service regulation.
The Commission has also expressed full support for Dr. Suleman’s leadership, highlighting his potential to drive strategic goals and promote inclusive and transformative policies in the electricity, water, and natural gas sectors.
