A shooting incident at Adomanu-Legazy, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, has left one dead with another battling for survival at the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital.
The incident occurred at about 1:00pm on Sunday. The deceased was only identified as Yaw, a Mason.
According to an eyewitness, the suspect only known in the area as ‘K’ is a husband to a female police officer and a known informant.
A confrontation with the deceased escalated, leading to the shooting “Yaw had confronted him for labeling him as a thief which almost resulted in a mob attack, sometime ago. In the course of their verbal exchange, Yaw (now deceased) entered a drinking spot to get a Schnapp so he could invoke Antoa (a river deity) to curse K for branding him as a thief.
“K attempted to stop him from invoking Antoa; this resulted in a fisticuff. We then saw K pull a pistol and started shooting into the air. The guys around then tried to confront him just so he stops the shooting. He then pointed the gun at Yaw and shot him many times, and then aimed at one other person who only sustained gunshot wounds. The guys quickly pinned him down to the ground and took the pistol from him” an eyewitness told Evans-Nkum.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital morgue.
The suspect is currently in police custody.
