A new national poll has revealed that 84% of Ghanaians approve of President John Dramani Mahama’s performance just a month into his tenure.

Just weeks after his historic election victory, President Mahama has secured an impressive 84% approval rating, according to the poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics. 

The research firm, which accurately predicted Mahama’s electoral win over former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia in December 2024, highlights a major shift in public sentiment.

The comprehensive survey, conducted between January 30 and February 1, 2025, reveals that 70% of Ghanaians now believe the country is headed in the right direction—a remarkable turnaround from just a year ago when only 22% held this view?.

What’s driving this confidence in John Mahama

One of the key factors driving Mahama’s high approval rating, according to the poll, is his cabinet selections, which have received overwhelming support from the public. 

The survey indicates that 90% of voters are satisfied with his appointees, with 68% saying they are either “very satisfied” or “extremely satisfied” with the choices?. 

This strong endorsement provides a mandate for the president’s new administration as it begins implementing its policies.

Ghana continues to face significant economic hurdles, including a recent debt default and currency devaluation, which led to a $3 billion IMF bailout. 

Despite these challenges, public optimism has surged, with 78% of Ghanaians expecting their living standards to improve in the next 12 months—a dramatic rise from 32% in January 2024?.

The poll was conducted under the leadership of Mussa K. Dankwah, Head of Global Research at Global InfoAnalytics, a firm recognized for its accurate electoral predictions in Ghana. 

The survey, which included both online and field interviews with 952 respondents, carries a margin of error of ±3.20% at a 95% confidence level?.

During his campaign, Mahama pledged to tackle corruption by establishing a new office to scrutinize government procurement above $5 million and promised comprehensive economic reforms to stabilize the economy. 

As his administration begins to roll out policies, the high public expectations reflected in the poll results will test his ability to deliver on these promises.

President Mahama’s strong start provides a solid foundation for his administration to push forward its agenda. 

However, sustaining this level of public confidence will depend on the government’s ability to address economic challenges, implement key policies, and navigate the burgeoning parliamentary dynamics effectively.
