Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to nine points as Mohamed Salah’s brace secured a 2-0 victory over Bournemouth at a lively Vitality Stadium.
Salah, now with 178 Premier League goals, moved ahead of Frank Lampard into sixth place on the all-time scoring list. The Egyptian forward opened the scoring in the 30th minute with a well-taken penalty after Lewis Cook was penalized for tripping Cody Gakpo.
Bournemouth, who have claimed wins over Arsenal, Manchester City, and Nottingham Forest this season, nearly took the lead when Antoine Semenyo’s shot struck the post. Semenyo had another golden opportunity early in the second half, but Alisson produced a fine save to deny him.
The hosts continued to threaten, with substitute Marcus Tavernier hitting the inside of the post before Justin Kluivert blazed the rebound over the bar. Their missed chances proved costly as Salah wrapped up the win with a superb curling effort late in the game.
Liverpool now sit on 56 points after 23 matches, though Arsenal can reduce the gap to six points if they defeat Manchester City on Sunday.
