Mavis Kukua Bissue, the Member of Parliament for Ahanta West, has commissioned a new mechanized borehole in Agona Ahanta’s Zone 2, offering much-needed relief to residents who have long struggled with chronic water shortages.
For years, the community in Zone 2 has grappled with a severe water crisis, and the newly commissioned borehole is seen as a pivotal intervention. The project also addresses ongoing water supply issues at the Municipal Police Station and tackles sanitation challenges in the area, improving both public health and safety.
Kukua Bissue, who assumed office nearly two weeks ago, expressed her commitment to bringing meaningful development to her constituency. Speaking to journalists at the commissioning ceremony, she announced plans to construct an additional 10 mechanized boreholes across the constituency to further address water shortages.
“This project is the result of extensive lobbying with my development partners in the Bahamas. We are rolling out this initiative with their support to improve the quality of life for our people,” she said, underscoring her dedication to tackling basic challenges in the constituency and fostering sustainable development.
Stephen Kenyah Arthur, the project supervisor and former Assembly Member for Ahuntunano, encouraged residents to use the borehole responsibly, explaining that it would operate at a low cost to generate funds for ongoing maintenance and operational expenses.
In his address, DSP Valentine Akposu, the Municipal Police Commander, called on the community to take ownership of the facility, ensuring its long-term sustainability and optimal use.
For the people of Agona Ahanta, the commissioning of the mechanized borehole marks a new chapter of hope and progress, symbolizing a transformative step towards improving the community’s water access and overall living conditions.
