Former Member of Parliament for Subin, Eugene Boakye Antwi has been urged to be measured in his utterances against the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the heavy defeat the party suffered in the 2024 general elections.
Political Analyst Yaw Boamah popularly known as ‘Authentic’ says that although the leadership of the NPP failed to live up to expectations, the defeat is a collective one because everybody can point to one mistake or another about why they lost.
It is recalled that following the defeat of the NPP, Mr Boakye Antwi expressed concern over how some Members of Parliament and party leaders conducted themselves during their tenure.
He noted that their perceived arrogance alienated supporters and created a disconnect with the grassroots.
“The NPP’s defeat cannot be discussed without mentioning Akufo-Addo,” Mr. Boakye Antwi remarked.
He accused the President and certain members of his family of mistreating loyal party members, which he believes deepened divisions within the party and eroded its support base.
“Akufo-Addo has been the leader of our party since December 2000. I was once his polling agent. How can we avoid holding him accountable for what has happened?” the former Deputy Minister of Works and Housing under the Akufo-Addo administration stated.
But speaking in an exclusive interview with 3news.com, on the way forward for the NPP, Boamah said among other things that “Even he Eugene Boakye Antwi, some people strongly believe that he secretly worked against Bawumia in the elections, a lot of NPP people, some of whom even benefited from the Akufo-Addo administration as appointees, were suspected to be working against Bawumia.
“Several factors caused the defeat of the NPP, and so yes, Eugene may be hurt by the defeat and will want certain things done right, however, he should be measured in his utterances.
“This is the time for cool heads to prevail and allow the committee formed by the party to scientifically determine why the party lost.”
He further urged the leadership of the NPP to accept the findings of the fact-finding committee in good faith and work with it.
