The Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim Constituency, Lawyer Philip Fiifi Buckman, has commended the nurses and doctors of Kwesimintsim Government Hospital for their remarkable support and dedication during the recent cholera outbreak.
This praise comes after the hospital was overwhelmed by a huge number of cases- 789 suspected cases and 8 deaths recorded as of December 7, 2024.
The Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality recently faced a cholera outbreak, and Kwesimintsim Hospital was the go-to destination for many residents. The hospital received an overwhelming number of patients, putting a strain on the healthcare professionals.
Despite this challenge, the hospital staff demonstrated exceptional professionalism, and their efforts have been recognized by their Member of Parliament, Lawyer Philip Fiifi Buckman.
He commended the hospital for their support during this critical period, acknowledging the pressure they faced in providing care to the large number of patients.
“I must commend the nurses, doctors, and health workers at this hospital for their exceptional response to the cholera outbreak. They worked tirelessly, often without sleep, to care for the patients. The hospital even set up temporary facilities to accommodate the influx of patients. Although Effia Kwesimintsim municipality was severely affected by the outbreak, the hospital staff played a crucial role in containing the situation.”
“Unfortunately, we lost some lives, but thanks to their efforts, many more were saved. We’re deeply grateful to the hospital staff and thankful for the high-quality medical care they provide to our community,” he stated.
At a brief ceremony, Lawyer Philip Fiifi Buckman and his team honored the health staff at Kwesimintsim Hospital, recognizing their dedication and hard work, particularly during the recent cholera outbreak. The team presented awards to the staff and donated essential hospital equipment to support the facility’s daily operations
Doctor Osei Frimpong, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital said, “We’ve faced significant equipment challenges, including a faulty anesthesia machine, which made performing surgeries extremely difficult. Despite these limitations, we did everything possible to provide quality care. The donated equipment will greatly enhance our capabilities, particularly in obstetrics. For instance, the fetal monitoring devices will enable us to track the baby’s development and intervene promptly if necessary.”
“The donated equipment, including the anesthesia machine, vein finders, and blood loss prevention devices, will significantly improve our patient care. We’re deeply grateful for this wonderful support, which will undoubtedly make a profound impact on our ability to provide quality healthcare, ” he said.
Doctor Osei Frimpong further assured that the hospital is committed to implementing a rigorous maintenance program to ensure the donated equipment remains in optimal condition, thereby guaranteeing the best possible care for patients.
