Thousands of elderly individuals in the New Juaben South Constituency have benefited from the ‘Shop and Go’ initiative introduced by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for the area, Michael Okyere Baafi.
Launched in 2020, the ‘Shop and Go’ initiative aims to alleviate the financial burdens of the elderly, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
This year’s event saw the MP distribute essential goods, including groceries, farm produce such as yams and cassava, poultry, and clothing. The beneficiaries were also given free health screenings, further supporting their well-being.
The MP who also serves as the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, emphasized that it is his duty to support the less privileged in the community.
Speaking at the event, he expressed his commitment to continue the initiative even after his tenure as MP.
“I won’t stop the initiative even after serving as a Member of Parliament. I will feel fulfilled doing this on a yearly basis,” Michael Okyere Baafi said.
The initiative, which has become a symbol of the MP’s dedication to the welfare of the elderly, was praised by many of the beneficiaries.
Several recipients expressed their gratitude and called for the continuation of the program beyond the MP’s time in office.
“This is a laudable initiative that will go a long way to support our livelihood,” one of the beneficiaries shared.
The ‘Shop and Go’ initiative stand out as a unique effort to address the needs of the elderly in the constituency, fostering a sense of community and solidarity among the residents.
The MP seeks to represent the New Juaben South Constituency for a second time in the December polls.
